We want to make it easy for you to use the newspaper in your classroom. There are no rules for what you do with the newspapers in your classroom, but we provide several ideas and programs to help you get started.
Resource Guides are available for all NIE teachers. Guides, which include lesson plans and activities that will help you and your students utilize the newspaper in the classroom, are available on this website under Teachers Lounge and several guides and special sections are available on the eEdition homepage.
We have a dozen special programs to help engage students of any age in learning with The Post- Standard. Several subjects are covered in these programs, including geography, reading, math, science, & economics.
Our Speakers Bureau can provide speakers on any number of topics for your classroom. Speakers can lead your students in newspaper activities, talk about their careers and educational backgrounds or provide NIE information to faculty and staff at your school. There is no fee to book a speaker for your classroom, email tclark@syracuse.com or call 470-2121.
NIE classrooms may take advantage of a free tour of The Post-Standard, located in downtown Syracuse. Tours are available on Wednesdays by appointment for classes of 8-25 people in third grade or older. For more information, email tclark@syracuse.com.
Our online NIE newsletter is available to all educators and is chock full of new lesson plans, activity ideas, special NIE offers and more.
