More than 700 local teachers use The Post-Standard in their classrooms each school year. The Post-Standard launched its Newspaper in Education or NIE program in 1985. The program helps teachers, in all settings, to use the newspaper as an educational resource. Newspapers develop reading, math, social studies and language skills while exploring the issues of today's world. Newspapers are so valuable to classrooms that the New York State Board of Regents treats newspapers as textbooks.
